Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has stressed how big a challenge awaits his side in tonight’s FA Cup third round replay against Aston Villa.

The Blues travel to Villa Park after securing a 1-1 draw against their Premier League opponents at Adams Park.

Ainsworth, who is relishing the thought of managing at Villa Park, is expecting the steepest of footballing challenges.

“It is a momentous test to get anything from Aston Villa, but we will give it everything we have got,” Said Ainsworth.

“Of course you look forward to it. It’s a brilliant day for Wycombe Wanderers and we are really looking forward to being able to pit ourselves against a Premier League side.

“We are bigger underdogs than you could imagine, and the gulf between the two teams is big.

“It is the biggest gulf between teams for a long time at Wycombe Wanderers, even more so because we are away from home. We will go out there and give it our all, but I fully expect us to be up against it.”

Aston Villa’s improved form also suggests that the match may be more testing than the first time the two sides met.

Having gone 19 league games without a win, Villa are currently unbeaten in their last two after picking up a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace and 1-1 draw last time out against high-flying Leicester.

Villa boss, Remi Garde, may be set to make a number of changes after claiming Gabby Agbonlohor could make a rare start.

Jack Grealish (tonsillitis) and Carlos Sanchez (hamstring) are also both in contention to feature in some capacity.

Ainsworth has a fully fit squad to pick from after Marcus Bean and Paul Hayes returned to the squad for the 1-0 defeat at Hartlepool on Saturday.

Tonight’s winners will host Manchester City at home in the fourth round in what would be a lucrative tie for the Chairboys.

Despite the obvious attraction of entertaining the Premier League heavyweights, Ainsworth refused to be drawn into a discussion on the potential fourth round tie.

He said: “It is so hypothetical. We just have to concentrate on Tuesday and can’t think about the tie after that.”
