Ryan Allsop is hoping to stake a claim to be Wycombe Wanderers’ first choice goalkeeper for the rest of the season.

With Alex Lynch expected to be out until April with a thigh problem, the Bournemouth loanee will have a prolonged period in the spotlight to show what he can do.

Having joined Wycombe primarily to get game time, the 23-year-old is eager to show he should remain in goal even once Lynch returns.

“I am just taking it every game as it comes and I will go from there. It is an opportunity to stake a claim as number one. I have come here to play games and I want to play every week,” he said of what is set to be his extended run in the team.

Allsop made a solid start to his time at Adams Park as he made a number of fine saves and impressed with his distribution and command of his area.

He could do nothing about Luton’s winner in the 1-0 defeat and was relatively pleased with his first appearance in League Two.

“I thought I grew into the game as it went on and I was a bit rusty as I haven’t played for a while. It was a difficult result to take,” he said.

“The goal was a good strike, I was close to it and got a little touch on it but couldn’t get enough on it. Obviously it is tough to take because it is a goal from nowhere and put us on the back foot.

“My two saves at the end is just what I am here to do and the defence is going to leave gaps when you are chasing the game.”

Allsop’s late saves gave the Blues a chance of forcing a late leveller and his performance left Gareth Ainsworth pleased with what he had seen.

The Wycombe boss praised Allsop’s performance and highlighted that the former England under-17 representative offers more than just reaction saves between the posts.

“I think Ryan had a fantastic game. His kicking was superb, his reaction saves were good and he came for some crosses which he took well,” he said.

“Ryan is an established keeper and is very young with a great deal of experience. He has played in the Premier League, Championship and League One and I thought he did extremely well on his League Two debut today.”
