Gareth Ainsworth says Wycombe Wanderers still have every chance of making the League Two play-offs despite drawing 0-0 with Yeovil Town.

The result leaves the Blues four points behind AFC Wimbledon with three games left to play.

They face Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday before playing Accrington Stanley and Oxford United in their last two games, and Ainsworth feels three positive results will be enough to secure his side a coveted play-off place.

“We will go again on Saturday and unbelievably we are still in the play-off race. It is going to be tough and we need results to go our way elsewhere,” Ainsworth said.

“I remember that happening a couple of years ago and it coming off for us though.

“I believe a couple of wins and a draw or maybe three wins will get us into the play-offs places.”

Wycombe once again struggled in front of goal as they failed to break down a stubborn Yeovil side who had the clearer openings during an insipid 90 minutes of football.

It has been a recurring theme in recent months in a run which has seen the Blues fail to win any of their last five games.

The downturn in form has seen them sacrifice control of the play-off race and Ainsworth accepted his side are in need of a win while also taking time to defend his player’s efforts.

“We have reached our target of 61 points and we are just creeping along with draws now and really need a win,” Ainsworth said.

“We have lost one game in our last nine and that sounds good but there have been too many draws and I understand that.

“The effort of the players can’t ever be questioned. Anyone who says that the boys don’t give everything can come and see me because they do.”

Wycombe now go to Portsmouth knowing that a defeat will make it mathematically impossible to reach the play-offs should Wimbledon pick up a win against Leyton Orient.
