Wanderers’ star summer signing Adebayo Akinfenwa, affectionately dubbed ‘the Beast’ by football fans across the country, has been sent off just 30 minutes into his Wycombe debut.

The 34-year-old, who signed for the Adams Park outfit over the weekend, was shown a straight red after a “scuffle” during the club’s first pre-season friendly in north west France.

The Chairboys are currently taking on Le Havre, but it will be a game to forget for Akinfenwa who received a hero’s welcome at the club’s kit launch on Sunday.

Friendly games are often known for being timid match-ups, but this appears to have been a feistier affair with both Akinfenwa and an opposition player given their marching orders on 30 minutes.

According to Wycombe Wanderers, the home team “went in hard” on Dayle Southwell and “shoved” Luke O'Nien to the ground.

Akinfenwa then got involved, tussling with his rival in a bid to “stand up for his team-mates”, the club said.

The striker joined Wanderers from AFC Wimbledon where he netted 19 goals in 83 appearances.

Akinfenwa took to twitter after the game to voice his opinions on what he felt was a harsh sending off.

The Blues battled on gallantly throughout the remainder of the match and after going behind equalised through Aaron Pierre to earn a 1-1 draw.

Wycombe also fielded a number of trialists throughout the match as manager Gareth Ainsworth continues to shape his squad ahead of the new season.

The inclusion of two trial goalkeepers will be of particular interest as 46-year-old Barry Richardson is currently Wanderers' only option in goal.
