Matt Bloomfield says the mood in the Wycombe Wanderers changing room remains upbeat despite starting the season with back-to-back losses.

The Blues followed up a 1-0 League Two defeat to Crawley Town on Saturday with a loss of the same scoreline in the EFL Cup against Bristol City.

Both games have seen Wanderers fail to convert some good chances and Bloomfield believes there is no reason to be downbeat about the start to the campaign.

“I don’t think there is any frustration [among the squad]. There are a lot of us who have been here several times before and it is the way football is,” he said.

“It is not always going to go your way but once it turns we know we are playing well enough to go and get some points on the board.

“We are not getting frustrated and we will take the positives from tonight and look forward to the match against Grimsby.”

Wanderers’ slow start to the campaign has coincided with a host of injuries wreaking havoc with Gareth Ainsworth’s squad.

Bloomfield insists the players are unperturbed by the dwindling numbers and says they have the right mentality to kick on.

“I wouldn’t call it a slump as we’ve only played two games. We still have 11 men out there and you can only play 11 at a time,” he said.

“People are starting to trickle back in and the rest of us are thoroughly enjoying the chance to play.

“There are young lads who don’t take the disappointments too hard because they just want to play and the older players who have experienced it before can guide them through.

“It is only two disappointing defeats, but we’ll use the good from the performances to lift the spirits.”

Bloomfield is likely to get the chance to continue in midfield tomorrow as Marcus Bean, Luke O’Nien and Danny Rowe are all doubts with injury.

He is expecting a challenging encounter against the newly promoted side and says Wanderers will take nothing for granted at Adams Park.

“I am expecting a big performance from them as they are new to the league,” he said.

“They will be high energy and will get lots of balls into the box. We will have to turn up on the day and be ready for a tough game.”
