Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth believes fans who chose to boo his team after their 0-0 draw at Blackpool are in the minority.

Chairboys fans travelled to the North-West coast in big numbers and there was audible discontent both during the match and at the full-time whistle.

Ainsworth, however, feels the majority of Wycombe fans are behind the club after they made it three games in a row without defeat in awful conditions at Bloomfield Road.

“Any point away from home is a great point. The travelling support was brilliant, it was just fantastic,” he said.

“There is a little minority who probably don’t understand what we are trying to do and you can hear their voices loud sometimes.

“That disappoints me, but all in all we have great fans and it was a real hardworking performance.”

The Blues were by far the better side in the first half and were inches from taking the lead when Michael Harriman’s dinked effort hit the underside of the crossbar and came out.

Marcus Bean also had a chance as Blackpool struggled to get going ahead of the half-time break.

They came out fighting in the second period though, and Jamal Blackman was forced into three smart saves late on.

Ainsworth, therefore, felt a draw was a fair result and praised the work of a Wanderers line up which featured four changes from Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley.

“I am really pleased [with the performance]. Harri has hit the bar and we are unfortunate not to score that one, but neither team deserved to win and I think if anyone lost they would have been aggrieved,” Ainsworth said.

“Nick Freeman had a full debut, Paul Hayes returned and Jamal Blackman was superb. There were positives and I will always find the positives.”

Hayes’ return will be particularly pleasing, and the Wanderers captain showed some decent touches in his 20 odd minute substitute appearance.

Ainsworth feels Hayes needs time to settle back into the team and says the early signs of a relationship with Dayle Southwell were on show against Blackpool.

He said: Haysey has shown some good touches there and he is a class above this league. That is the first time he has played with Dayle Southwell today so it puts things in perspective.

“It is tough and I know we will just grow and grow and things will be fine.”
