WYCOMBE WANDERERS legend Matt Bloomfield celebrates his 13-year anniversary at the club tomorrow and was praised by manager Gareth Ainsworth for his contribution at Adams Park over the years.

Bloomfield, or Blooms as he is known affectionately at the club, made his debut on December 28, 2003 against Rushden & Diamonds and scored his first goal for the Chairboys against QPR in March 2004.

Speaking to the Bucks Free Press, Bloomfield explained about some of the personal highlights he has had over the years.

He said: “The testimonial was a lovely night to celebrate my ten years here at Wycombe. However, the miraculous escape at Torquay has been the main highlight for me.

“The repercussions and the problems the club would have faced had it gone the other way would have been terrible.

“If that happened, I probably wouldn’t have been standing here talking about it now and as players we might have had problems as well so that would be the stand-out for me.

“The Villa game back in January was another highlight. To draw at home against a Premier League team was a brilliant effort and also the Chelsea game in the League Cup was great too, as well as two promotions.

“There have been some great highlights in the past 13 years, and also some lows, so it has been a real rollercoaster but I have loved it. I just can’t believe 13 years has come around some quickly but here’s to many more.”

Ainsworth paid a glowing tribute to his club captain for his years of brilliant service for Wycombe Wanderers. He commented: “He is the absolute ultimate professional.

“There are not many that can say they have the professionalism and attitude of Matt Bloomfield. He is Wycombe through and through and Matt will always be known for playing for Wycombe Wanderers.

“Matt cares so much about this club, he works tirelessly in the community and he works harder when he is out of the team than when he is in the team.

“The respect I have had from him forced other players to follow and he has made my job easier and I am proud to have played with him and roomed with him and as a manager, what a fantastic player to have in your team.”
