Chilterns MS Centre are the sponsors of Wycombe’s League Two game against Yeovil on Saturday and their partnership with the Chairboys continues to go from strength to strength.

The new centre first opened in September 2012 which has made a huge amount of difference to not only the number of people they can treat, but the type of therapies they can offer as well.

A group of volunteers, with MS, opened the original centre in 1985 because of a treatment that Wycombe Wanderers’ players use to recover from their injuries.

The hyperbaric oxygen chamber, looked after by John Bedford and his team, is housed on-site and is directly associated to aid those suffering with MS, to help get 100% oxygen through a mask into their system to assist with balance and keep symptoms at bay.

However, the chamber can also treat those with all different types of illnesses such as people with strokes, allergy issues and those on the road to recovery from cancer.

Golds explained the reason why Wycombe’s players choose to use the chamber so often. She said: “It increases the oxygen in the bloodstream, which gets to damaged tissues much, much quicker and can speed up the healing process and that is why it is so fantastic for the players.”

Wanderers left-back Joe Jacobson is a prime example of how players can get back on the pitch swiftly, whilst using the chamber frequently.

He tore his hamstring earlier this year and was due to be out for three months, but thanks to the MS Centre providing the usage of the chamber, he was back within five weeks.

With the Wycombe partnership blossoming, Golds added: “We know they are still 500 people or so out there who don’t know about the treatments provided here.

“The partnership allows us to get our name out there and get people in who could potentially benefit from our centre.”

The game on Saturday at Adams Park is a great opportunity for fans to meet the some of the team, including Golds herself.

She commented: “We will be doing a collection on the gates and, afterwards, we will be in the Caledonian Suite so please feel free to ask us any questions.”
