Gareth Ainsworth hailed his side's discipline in their gritty 1-0 victory in their League Two clash with Portsmouth at Adams Park.

Scott Kashket grabbed the only goal of the game on 48 minutes when his 20-yard shot took a wicked deflection and wrongfooted David Forde in the Pompey goal.

In a very even contest between two sides battling for promotion, Ainsworth was thrilled with his side's organisation and work ethic.

He said: "The discipline was excellent from the boys. We set up a certain way and we executed it really well.

"We had to find a way ofr limiting what Portsmouth can do on the ball as they have some good players and we countered them.

"This is a big result for us and I am really proud of the boys.

"Some of them are on empty again. I thought Dominic Gape was outstanding once again and the energies of the guys in front of the back four was really good."

Next up for Wanderers is a crucial Checkatrade Trophy semi-final match with Coventry City on Tuesday night.

Ainsworth explained that he will relish the chance to get to Wembley on Tuesday.

He added: "For any manager, the chance to get to play in a semi-final is awesome.

"The boys have worked really hard. We will give it our all against a League One side and it will be a great trip for the town.

"We may rotate but we will have a look at the boys on Monday. They will give a right go and these boys will achieve one day."

The Wycombe manager also celebrated his 100th win as boss in his 250th game in management.

He commented: "I didn't know that but it really is great. As a manager it is nice to have these milestones.

"As a manager, you wake up every day, feeling lucky and happy and I will give everything that day no matter what and my players do the same which is great to see."
