Gareth Ainsworth said he was aggrieved not to have got at least a point against Carlisle United on Saturday but remained positive his team would get out of their current run.

The Chairboys have lost six of the past seven games in all competitions and they were defeated by their high-flying opponents 2-1 at Adams Park.

Adebayo Akinfenwa had given Wanderers the perfect start on three minutes but Jamie Proctor and Reggie Lambe responded for the visitors.

Despite numerous chances to level the scores, Wycombe lost for the first time at home since October but Ainsworth was far from despondent about the loss.

He said: “That’s football. I am very positive as I thought we were the better team but we conceded sloppy goals as an 11.

“95 per cent we got right but it is just those little details and we missed chances at the other end. However, if we keep playing like that then we will be fine.

“We have a good squad and players coming back who will bolster the squad. My job is results, and when they don’t go well I can take good heart out of a good performance.

“I am just amazed we didn’t get anything.”

Ainsworth added that there was no thought about panicking about their current plight. He commented: “The word panic doesn’t come into my repertoire.

“I have absolute confidence and belief in the boys and we are proud to be where we are in the league.

“We have a game in hand on Tuesday (away to Colchester) that if we win, we will be in the playoffs and that would be fantastic heading into the last 15 games.”
