Gareth Ainsworth put on a brave face despite seeing his Wanderers side go on their worst league run for six years.

Wycombe lost 2-1 to Crawley Town at Adams Park yesterday. It looked good when Adebayo Akinfenwa gave the Chairboys the lead on 15 minutes with a piece of superb improvisation.

However, Joe McNerney equalised for the visitors with a bullet header on 41 minutes before substitute Josh Payne gave Crawley all three points with a sensational free-kick six minutes from time.

Ainsworth explained that he felt his team were giving away extremely soft goals and wanted this eradicated quickly.

He said: "It wasn't as though we were absolutely battered. Crawley only had two shots in the second half, one of them a brilliant free-kick, but we were stupid for giving that away.

"We don't need to be in that position and we gifted them a goal in the first half. We need to cut out these silly mistakes.

"I thought we were comfortable in the first half but unfortunately we have come away with nothing again and it is important we come out of this losing run quickly.

"I would rather have a bad performance and get a victory just to stop this run then keep outplaying teams but that is the way it is at the moment.

"We are also missing a few players, such as Paul Hayes and Scott Kashket, and in terms of injuries we are up against it but I have a good squad and I am sure we will get off this run soon and start another unbeaten one."

Although the result wasn't in Wycombe's favour, a few of the players put in good performances, including Max Muller who made his full home debut in the league.

Ainsworth added: "I thought Max, alongside Will De Havilland who played well, played briliiantly. I thought they both did well, despite their inexperience and I am pleased with both of them and their progress."

Next up for Wycombe is a long trip to Accrington on Tuesday evening. Ainsworth said he expects a tough game but is confident of a result.

He commented: "It will be tough. Playoff team last year and you look at them and it has been a difficult season for them so far but the league is tight and any team can beat any team and the results week in, week out prove that.

"We are not losing faith and I am sure this will turn for us and when it does I am not ruling out a late run into the top seven."
