Garry Thompson and Sam Wood will be leaving the club this summer after manager Gareth Ainsworth held talks with his out-of-contract players.

Both Anthony Stewart and Nick Freeman have triggered extensions to remain at Adams Park for a further year, while a new contract has been offered to Aaron Pierre and talks are ongoing with Marcus Bean.

New one-year deals for Adebayo Akinfenwa and Matt Bloomfield had already been revealed last month.

Meanwhile, Jamal Blackman and Alex Jakubiak have returned to their parent clubs at the end of their loan spells with the club.

Ainsworth said: “It’s the hardest part of the job for me to say goodbye to players who have given everything for the club, and in Garry and Sam we’ve had two fantastic professionals who have played a huge part in this club’s recent progress.

“Thommo has been one of my generals in the dressing room and we knew exactly what we were getting when he brought him in two years ago.

"His experience, knowledge, hard work ethic and commitment have been outstanding and he’s scored some important goals for us as well. He’s been a consummate professional and an absolute pleasure to work with.”

“Woody’s been here for five years and seen it all in his time with us, from that day we survived relegation at Torquay, to the Wembley play-off final, and the cup adventures in the past couple of years.

"He runs his socks off every time he crosses the white line and is one of those players that fans love to watch.

“Next year we want to go one better and compete in the top seven, and I don’t feel that Garry or Sam would feature as often as they would like, particularly at this stage of their careers.

"Therefore I’ve made the tough decision to let them go and I know there’ll be many other managers out there who would love to have such great guys in their squad.

"They’ve been excellent servants to the club and I wish them every success for the future.

“Anthony has had a superb season and picked up an injury just at the wrong time, but he’ll play an integral role for us next year, and Nick has shown plenty of promise in training and in matches to prove to me that he deserves another year to build on his potential.

“It’s no secret that Aaron has been keeping his options open as he’s an ambitious young man who wants to play at the highest possible level, but he has an opportunity to help us win promotion next season and we would love him to be a part of that effort.

“Finally I’d like to thank Jamal and Alex for their efforts with us and will always keep an eye on how their careers develop from here.

"Jamal’s contribution in particular was outstanding and I have no doubt that he will have a fantastic career at a higher level – he’s remained humble, grounded and worked so hard to do his best for Wycombe Wanderers, and the lads loved having him behind them every game knowing that he’s capable of producing some incredible saves which have earned us many points throughout the season.

“Overall I’m really pleased with what I’ve seen this season and if it hadn’t been for those injuries at the start of the season, and the backlog of fixtures after our cup runs, then I really believe we could have reached the top seven.

"But we have no regrets and we don’t look back – now we are fully focused on preparing for next season, moulding the squad with a few additions and we’ll be ready to go again at the start of July.”
