Wycombe Wanderers notched their first home league win of the season with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers.

The Chairboys were rampant in the first half and scored goals through Paris Cowan-Hall, Anthony Stewart and Luke O'Nien.

Rovers pulled one back in the second half through Christian Doidge but the Blues ran out worthy winners.

The first goal came on seven minutes when Cowan-Hall smashed home from 12 yards out after Adebayo Akinfenwa had caused mayhem in the Forest Green area.

Goal number two came on 22 minutes when Stewart smartly controlled Cowan Hall's cross and he buried a low shot past Sam Russell.

Wanderers continued to dominate proceedings and Akinfenwa was the architect of the third goal on 35 minutes when he robbed Liam Noble and his shot was well saved by Russell before O'Nien tapped into an empty net.

The first chance of the game fell the visitors way after just a minute when Noble’s fierce free kick was well parried away by Scott Brown.

The game got off to a cracking start and Wycombe came back strongly two minutes later when Akinfenwa released Matt Bloomfield whose decent cross was headed wide by Cowan-Hall.

A breathless start continued and Akinfenwa’s header was deflected over for a corner. From the resultant corner, Joe Jacobson’s delivery fell to Craig Mackail-Smith who saw his acrobatic effort go inches wide.

Wanderers’ strong start was rewarded with Cowan Hall's strike before Noble crashed a free kick against the upright which Wycombe scrambled clear.

The Blues were controlling the game and Stewart and O'Nien's finishes put the home side in a very position.

Wanderers continued to torment their opponents and almost made it four on 40 minutes when Jacobson’s free kick found Stewart his bullet header was brilliantly saved by Russell.

Forest Green had a goal disallowed right on half time when Noble placed the ball into the corner but Cooper who headed to the Rovers captain had strayed offside.

Seconds later, Wycombe had a strike of their own chalked off when Mackail-Smith slammed home Akinfenwa’s fantastic through ball but he too was flagged offside.

The second half started at a slower tempo than the first but Gareth Ainsworth’s men were always a threat on the break and when Stewart burst out of defence he played in the dangerous Cowan-Hall who saw his shot deflected over.

Rovers were really struggling to deal with Wycombe’s forward forays and on 54 minutes a Jacobson corner found the unplayable Akinfenwa who headed over.

The Chairboys were extremely comfortable and keeping the ball very well without creating the opportunities that they did in the first half.

On 64 minutes, some wonderful incisive football involving O’Nien, Bloomfield and Mackail-Smith saw the latter almost get on the end of Bloomfield’s cross but the former Brighton man was just beaten to it.

However, on 67 minutes, Doidge nodded into an empty net following up his own header which hit the post.

Mark Cooper’s side almost pulled another back when a free kick was fumbled by the previously faultless Scott Brown but Adam El-Abd cleared just in time.

Substitute Josh Umerah almost scored on 83 minutes after Jacobson fizzed in a cross which the young loanee failed to connect with.

Forest Green were continuing to pile forward in the closing stages but the Chairboys were dealing with the bombardment reasonably well.

Wanderers climb to fourth in the table to maintain their positive start to the season.
