Blues manager Gareth Ainsworth was pleased his Wycombe side avoided a potential slip-up as they eased to a 2-0 win over National League side Solihull Moors.

Goals from Nick Freeman and Craig Mackail-Smith gave the visitors a comfortable afternoon at Damson Park.

Although the hosts stepped up their game in the second half, the Chairboys always looked in control and Ainsworth was delighted with the way his side went about their business.

He said: "We got the job done and we are into the hat for the second round which is fantastic.

"I told the boys that if they want the moments like they had in the hotel last year when we drew Spurs, this is the process and the start of it.

"The aim was be in the hat, no matter what, and thankfully the boys did a really professional job.

"It wasn't a great game and Solihull sat very deep and we scored two good goals with the wind and against the win could have had a couple more.

"Scott Brown made one fantastic save. He showed superb athleticism to keep out the looping deflection and that could have given them a lift and our midfield covered an amazing amount of ground.

"All in all, a very pleasing performance."

Ainsworth hailed the impact of his experienced trio in the midfield and said their nous was vital in getting through a tricky tie.

He commented: "You saw Sam Saunders' quality he has on the ball.

"All three, Matt Bloomfield, Marcus Bean and Saunds, have all played at a higher level and you saw why.

"Blooms' energy that he gives us is something special and Sam had that swagger back.

"Sam is a very confident player and showed what a terrific footballer he is.

"And what can yoo say about Beany? He is awesome. He gets his foot on everything, breaks attacks up. I wish he curled that one in the goal as it would have been a fantastic moment."

With the second round draw this evening, Ainsworth was hoping for a tie against the club he supports.

He added: "It would be fantastic to get Blackburn, who beat Barnet and getting them would be brilliant.

"If we can't get Blackburn, an easy tie would be great so we can have memories of last season getting to round four."
