Wanderers skipper Adam El-Abd explained 'it wasn't to be' as the Blues couldn't find a way past Port Vale on Saturday.

El-Abd played a prominent role in an excellent defensive display by Wycombe but despite some good chances, the Chairboys failed to hit the net.

El-Abd said: "It wasn't to be for us.

"It was a difficult game and Port Vale came to upset our gameplan and we weren't quite at our best.

"It was a quick turnaround from Wednesday. Believe it or not, it makes a huge difference from Tuesday night to Saturday from Wednesday night to Saturday.

"It wasn't really ideal to have the game on the Wednesday when it could have been played on the Tuesday but the FA make the fixtures and you live with it.

"We didn't get beat and that's a positive and it is still in our hands."

After another superb performance at the heart of the Wycombe backline, El-Abd praised his fellow defenders for their performances.

He added: "We are all in great form and Browny too.

"We are going alright. We were unlucky to concede two against Crawley and unlucky against Cambridge too.

"The solidity is coming and if we can keep limiting the chances then the clean sheets will come and even in the games we have conceded we have been unlucky so we will take the positives."
