Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Marcus Bean has hailed Adebayo Akinfenwa as the ‘”best player in the league” ahead of the forward potentially winning the League Two player of the season.

Akinfenwa, 35, has been nominated alongside Accrington Stanley striker Billy Kee and Cheltenham frontman Mo Eisa for the award which will be presented on Sunday night to the winner at the Hilton, Park Lane.

He has scored 17 league goals and provided 12 assists in a stellar League Two campaign so far, as well as bagging an FA Cup goal against Leatherhead.

Akinfenwa has bagged 36 goals in just under two seasons at Adams Park and Bean was quick to praise Akinfenwa's all round contribution to the club.

He said: "He has been immense for us on and off the pitch.

"I think some of the things you don't see with Bayo are his influence in the dressing room. He is a big personality and a big character and that rubs off on everyone else.

"On the pitch he has been focal to everything we have done. It is safe to say without him we would have struggled more as our gameplan is focused around him and he thoroughly deserves all the plaudits he has been getting.

"For me, he has been the most influential and best player in the league and hopefully he gets the award that he deserves."
