Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth is expecting a totally different test from this weekend's opponents, Chesterfield, following last weekend's defeat to league leaders Accrington Stanley.

The Spireites have a tumultuous week, beginning with a 4-1 loss to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, which put them on the precipice of relegation.

In the wake of that defeat, Jack Lester and his backroom staff were sacked before Ian Evatt stepped into the managerial hotseat as Lester's replacement.

Relegation was then confirmed on Tuesday when Morecambe grabbed a point meaning that Chesterfield went through the League Two trapdoor and out of the Football League for the first time in over 90 years.

With the Accrington defeat a tough one to take, Ainsworth explained that it was now out of their system and the Chesterfield game was a tough one to assess.

He said: "It is going to be totally different game.

"If people are hoping that we can get favours done by teams in a lower position, ask yourself why that's going to happen. If you assume that might happen then you have to be fearful of Chesterfield as well.

"We have to make sure we are right on it Saturday. We have shown how consistent we have been after 44 games. We are in third, which is brilliant.

"I think teams below us are feeling the pressure that they are not above us and they are trying to turn that round on us.

"It makes me smile a little bit because we have had plenty of pressure in recent years and we don't consider this as pressure at all.

"This has been a fantastically successful season and we have a chance to do the unthinkable to get automatic promotion which I am sure everyone would have loved at the start of the season, but wouldn't have been confident of getting.

"Now we have a chance to do that and it is in the boys hands.

"It is a really good opportunity on Saturday. I believe when people talk about the pressure on Wycombe I think that is a little deflection from themselves and they can't believe Wycombe after 44 games are still above them in the table."

Last week, Ainsworth did without the services of Luke O'Nien, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Sido Jombati, who have been key players in recent months for the Chairboys.

With two of the three certain to be back, Ainsworth is hoping that the talismanic Akinfenwa will also be fit enough to be in the squad for such a crucial game.

He added: "We are doing everything we can to get Bayo fit for Saturday now.

"Bayo missing last week's game was big for us as everyone knew and Sido being out as well has been a blow for us.

"They are both definitely going to the make the trip.

"Luke is back to full fitness and is training and he will be raring to go."

The Blues haven't been beaten on the road since December 22 when they lost 3-2 to Coventry at the Ricoh Arena.

Ainsworth eulogised about their form on their travels, explaining: "There is no reason why we can't remain unbeaten away in 2018.

"We travel well and I think the boys are well aware of what this game means.

"Pressure is never something I put on my players and they put pressure on themselves to perform."
