No hints from Waddock at starting XI

GARY Waddock says his team selection during friendlies doesn't indicate who will be in the Wanderers side that kicks off the season.

The Blues boss only made one change from the side that drew with Luton on Wednesday, as Stuart Lewis replaced Matt Bloomfield in midfield as Wanderers were beaten by Fulham.

But he insists that doesn't mean he's decided on what his starting eleven will be when Blues face Watford in the first round of the League Cup on August 11.

He said: "We said to the players not to look into the formation or selection during the pre-season programme. That starting eleven may go on Tuesday [when Wanderers play QPR], there may be changes.

"The main thing is the Watford and York games. Players have to get into the team for those games. That's the key for the players."

Waddock was pleased with his side's defensive display against Fulham as the Premier League side had to wait until the final five minutes for two late goals in their 3-0 Adams Park victory.

He said: "In terms of where we're going and want we are trying to achieve, today has helped us prepare for the season.

"Defensively we had to be switched on, with the way they pass the ball. We looked solid and organised.

"We are not looking into the scoreline, it's how we are shaping up that's the important thing."
