WANDERERS boss Gary Waddock has backed Spurs boss Harry Redknapp for the job of England manager.
Redknapp is the scorching favourite to replace Fabio Capello, who resigned on Tuesday night.
Waddock said: “It’s an obvious choice. I think everybody would like him to be the manager.
“He’s the favourite to get it and after the court case there is no reason why he shouldn’t be the next England manager.”
Redknapp’s upbeat personality would be a change of pace after Capello, but Waddock insists his credentials run much deeper than that.
He said: “He’s not only a smiley face, he’s done an unbelievable job at the clubs he’s been at.
“I think he’ll want to have a go at it, it’s a challenge and I don’t think anybody would turn it down if it was offered.”
However, Waddock believes he would have to turn his back on Spurs to accept the role.
It could be an awkward situation after Redknapp praised the club for supporting him so wholeheartedly during his successful fight against tax evasion allegations.
Waddock said: “One job is hard enough as it is, but trying to combine being the national manager going into a European Championship [with managing Spurs] would be a tall ask.”
