Wycombe swimmers shine in Sheffield

THE Wycombe District Swimming Club had its most successful Age Group and Youth Nationals ever despite top performer Alex Vine being away at the European Junior Championships in Glasgow representing Great Britain in the 200m individual medley.

In the Age Group Championships (girls 11-13 and boys 11-14) James Crawford competing in the 14 years age group was the club's outstanding performer making finals in all five events he contested. He came fourth in the 200m backstroke and 100m backstroke, fifth in the 100m freestyle and the 400m freestyle and 200m freestyle events to all-but confirm his place on the national 'start' squad programme for the 2003/2004 season.

Anna Jemielity was sixth in the 200m backstroke and 10th in the 100m backstroke finals, whilst team-mate Katie Ambridge (13) was sixth in her 200m butterfly final.

In the Youth Championships (girls 14-17 and boys 15-18) Stephanie Wilson (16) was the star of the show gaining a place in the 16/17 years 100m butterfly final.

She also made the semi-final of the 50m freestyle and helped the girls relay squad make the 4x200m freestyle final with Charlotte Ambridge, Francesca Wright and Toni Howard.
