Swimming: Five gold medals for Howard

WYCOMBE District Swimmer Edward Howard won five gold medals at the Swansea Open.

Competing in the 12 years age group, Howard won the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, and the 200m and 400m individual medley events. He also gained a bronze in the 1500m freestyle.

Among the club's other top performers was 13-year-old James Stone, who had wins in the 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle events, silvers in the 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and the 200m individual medley and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke.

Daniel Crawford, competing in the 12 years age group, won three events the 100m and 200m backstroke and the 100m butterfly.

Katie Ambridge, competing in the 14/15 years age group as a 14 year old, won the 100m and 200m butterfly events and placed second in the 200m and 400m individual medleys.

Andy Carpenter continued his meteoric rise with wins in the 14 years 100m and 200m breaststroke events and a bronze in the 400m freestyle.

James Crawford, 15, had a busy weekend, winning the 15/16 years 100m butterfly and collecting silvers in the 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke and 400m individual medley events.

Other notable performers included Sam Straughan, 11, who won a gold in the 400m individual medley, a silver in the 100m butterfly and four bronzes in the 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke events.

Anna Jemielity, 14, competing in the 14/15 years age group, gained silvers in the 100m and 200m backstroke and a bronze in the 200m individual medley events. Team-mate Jeni Howard, 15, collected bronzes in the 800m freestyle and 400m individual medley events, and there was also bronze for Alex Vine in the men's open 200m butterfly.
