Foursome Alex wins every event he enters

SWIMMING: Alex Vine won every event he entered at Hatfield Swimming Club's UK Challenge Middle Distance Meet last Saturday.

The Wycombe District Swimming Club member was the top performer on the day with four wins out of four.

His quartet was made up of victories in the 15 and over years 200m and 400m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly.

Clubmates Cordelia Wilson, in the 13/14 years 200m backstroke, and Katie Ambridge, in the 13/14 years 200m breaststroke, also struck gold with Wilson also winning silver in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley before claiming a bronze in the 200m freestyle.

Other silver medals went to Anna Jemielity in the Over 15 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley; Rory Kempson in the nine/ten years 200m breaststroke, Stephanie Wilson in the Over 15 400m freestyle. She also gained a bronze in the 200m freestyle.

The bronze medalists were: Courtney Wells in the 13/14 years 400m freestyle, Joshua Alfred in the 11/12 years 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke, James Stone in the 13/14 years 200m breaststroke and Charlotte Ambridge in the 15 and over years 200m individual medley.

While they were in action at Hatfield, a smaller group of eight swimmers travelled to the Welsh National Pool in Swansea for the New Year Meet and came back with a terrific haul of medals including four golden gongs, four silvers and seven bronze medals.

The golds were won by James Crawford in the 16 and over 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle. He also gained a silver medal in the 200m freestyle. Jeni Howard won her gold in the 15 and under 200m individual medley, she also gained a silver in the 800m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m freestyle.

Meanwhile, younger brother Edward won the 12 and under 100m backstroke and a bronze in the 200m freestyle. David Ryan (17) gained a silver in the 15 and over 200m breaststroke and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke whilst Robert Matthew-Stroud (15) gained a silver in the 15 and under 100m freestyle and a bronze in the 200m freestyle, Andrew Carpenter (15) picked up bronzes in the 15 and under 100m and 200m breaststroke and James Poulter (17) collected a bronze in the 15 and over 100m freestyle.
