JOSH Scowen was subject to deadline day interest from four clubs, including one in the Premier League, Wanderers chairman Don Woodward said.
Blues accepted a bid for their current player of the year on Thursday, the final day of the loan transfer window.
An offer was on the table for a loan move away from Adams Park, with a view to Scowen leaving permanently in the summer.
Woodward said it was a bid the club couldn't afford to turn down but after considering the offer the 21-year-old decided he wanted an unpressured think about his long-term future in the close season.
The Blues chairman said: "Josh thought, 'Why don't I hold on, help Wycombe and think about it in the summer?'
"It came about that morning, from a variety of clubs in a variety of leagues - mainly Championship and Premiership.
"It was an odd one because it was so late and unexpected. It was an unbelievable offer."
Woodward added: "Whilst Josh is a fantastic player we have always said we are not going to stand in the way of a good player, ever. He had a choice and he decided not to go."
