JOSH Scowen remains a fitness doubt for Wanderers, with manager Gareth Ainsworth saying his involvement in Saturday's squad at Stevenage is 'touch and go'.

The former winner of the Wanderers player of the year award hasn't kicked a ball in anger this campaign after picking up an ankle injury in the final pre season friendly at Barnet.

Despite being stretchered off the pitch at The Hive, Wanderers' medical team were hopeful the injury wasn't as bad as it looked.

But it's still to completely settle down and there are lingering doubts as to when Scowen will next be available for selection.

Speaking after Tuesday night's home defeat by Tranmere Ainsworth said: "Touch and go is all I'll say. Stuart Lewis [who also had an ankle injury] was ahead of him and made the bench tonight. Josh is a couple of days behind him. We'll try and get him training in the next few days.

"He'll be short of match fitness but we know what Josh Scowen does for us. He's a cracking player when he's on it, but I have got some good midfielders at the moment. I'm pleased to see them all performing in the last three weeks."
