GARETH Ainsworth said he had mixed feelings about Saturday's result as Wanderers took a point from a goalless draw with Bury.

The Shakers did the double over Blues last season, and with the Lancashire side among the pre season favourites for the League Two title a point and a clean sheet signals progress from last year's campaign of woe.

Ainsworth felt his side's display warranted victory but was satisfied with a share of the spoils.

Already Wanderers have accumulated a fifth of last season's points tally, and the Blues boss said his target at the moment is simply to achieve safety before pushing on.

And he said the display against Bury has given him the belief they can achieve that objective.

He said: "We’ve got to get these points to keep us in League Two again and see where we can get after that. That’s the aim and that will always be the aim because of the scare I had last year.

"If we keep playing like that, the boys might keep surprising me and we’ll see where we go.

"In a tough game against probably the league favourites, we edged the chances and were unlucky not to get all three points.

"I’m disappointed but I also realise where we were last season. I keep harping on about this but we’ve made huge strides for a club that was really in trouble on and off the pitch.

"It’s small building blocks. We need to build a tower and we are on a few blocks at the moment.

"The chances created were really good – sticking them in, of course that needs to happen, but it will happen. It’s the creation of the chances I will be looking at, and we created many chances and were unlucky not to score.

"They are probably favourites for the league, pre the first ball kicked in the league. Them, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth spent the money, David [Flitcroft, Bury manager] is a good manager – he’s managed in the Championship. I consider that a great point for us today.

"We had the best of the first 30 minutes, they had the last 15 minutes of the first half. The second half started very even Steven to the break when Stevie had his collision and we had that nine minutes.

"We started the better team and we carried that through to the end of the game. It only looked like one team was going to score today."
