GARETH Ainsworth said he can sense a big win for Wanderers just around the corner because of the number of chances they've been creating in recent matches.

Goals were hard to come by for Blues last season and they've failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five league and cup matches.

But whereas all too often last season opposing goalkeepers were able to come off the pitch and leave for home without needing to shower because of their lack of involvement, this time Wanderers have been creating chances for fun.

Last Saturday's goalless draw with Bury was a prime example of the new, improved Wanderers attack as several good chances came and went, and the previous league game at Adams Park featured a string of superb saves from Tranmere keeper Owain Fon Williams.

Ainsworth said that means chances will ultimately be turned into goals - and the Blues boss said someone is going to take a hiding from his players as a result.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow's visit from Mansfield Town, he said: "Chances are the main thing for me. If we don't create chances, that's the big negative.

"We've created lots of chances - how the ball didn't go in at the end of the [Bury] game is amazing.

"I think anyone who was at the game will know we won't have any problems with goals. The games we've won, we've won convincingly with good goal ratios, and I think somebody's going to take a hammering soon."

Ainsworth's views were echoed by striker Matt McClure, who's in line for a potential starting berth tomorrow with fellow forward Steven Craig a major doubt after being concussed during Saturday's draw.

McClure said: "We did everything but score in that game. I think sooner or later we'll bag three or four in a game."
