York City manager Russ Wilcox tipped Wanderers to win the League Two title in the aftermath of his side’s 1-0 defeat at Adams Park on Saturday.

The 50-year-old is well placed to judge having guided Scunthorpe to promotion from the same division last season after finishing runners-up.

After seeing his side beaten by a Fred Onyedinma goal shortly after half-time, Wilcox praised the Blues and believes they have what it takes to maintain their challenge at the summit.

He told Sky Sports: "You have to credit Wycombe for the win. They're up the top of the division for a reason and Ainsworth has really got them going this season. Can they stay there? On that showing I think they can.

"I thought the best team won. Bobby in goal was outstanding for us and kept us in the game. He's made four superb saves.

"The second half was probably even but I was disappointed with the goal. We just didn't pick up the man after defending the first cross.

"We passed it about better and huffed and puffed but without creating many opportunities - at least no clear-cut ones.

"We've started games well this season but we just didn't get going. We were lucky to come into half-time level and Wycombe deserved to be in front. That happens in football sometimes but it's up to us to take that chance."

The result keeps Wanderers top of League Two, one point above Burton Albion.
