Gareth Ainsworth expects interest in Matt Ingram from clubs higher up the football pyramid to be at an all-time high after his stunning display against Mansfield on Saturday.

Those in attendance at the One Call Stadium watched on in amazement as the 21-year-old pulled off a number of saves to keep the game goalless.

Blues boss Ainsworth said his number one’s showing will have captured the attention of clubs higher up the divisions.

He said: “After that performance from Matt Ingram I’m sure there will be eyes watching him because he’s the best keeper in the bottom division in my opinion.

“People will obviously rate other ones highly, but working with Matt day in, day out, you see how special he is. He proved it today, he proved it against York with a last minute save and Bury last week.

“He’s consistently good. We’ve got a young squad and there’s always going to be eyes prying when you’re top of the league.”

During his 22-year playing career Ainsworth played alongside international goalkeepers, and the Wycombe manager feels Ingram could one day reach the same heights.

“Matty Ingram’s right up there. It’s difficult to compare because you play with experienced keepers such as Neil Sullivan and Radek Cerny, and then you’ve got your Lee Camps – who is fantastic.

“Matty’s got the potential to go on and play at the level that those keepers have played at without a doubt. He’s getting his game together in an all round way.

“You can’t just be a good shot stopper, you can’t just be a good cross taker, you’ve got to add kicking, distribution, right decisions, a bit of pace and he’s getting the lot. It’ll slowly come but I believe he’s one of a few players here who could play at the very top.”
