After watching both Plymouth and Newport County leave Buckinghamshire with all three points, Gareth Ainsworth has pointed the finger at the playing surface for his side’s struggles at home.

The Blues boss believes the pitch at Adams Park has played a part in the pair of defeats which were Wycombe’s third and fourth home league losses of the season.

With Wasps leaving in December, Wanderers are now the sole tenants of the stadium but Ainsworth feels the pitch is still recovering from years of rugby being played upon it.

He said: “I do say that our pitch needs a bit of work and hopefully we can get that. The rugby really has hammered it.

“Our groundsman does a fantastic job, they really do as much as they can, but they’re fighting a losing battle because the pitch has been hammered over the years. It’s really hard, the ball bounces really high and these things do affect it.

“As a manager you don’t want to pull out the excuses but on good pitches, especially away from home, we seem to play some cracking stuff. At Cambridge we were outstanding on the ball and even at home we’re still dominating possession which is great for me because it’s what I want to do.

“We may have to tweak our style at home a little bit to adapt to the conditions and we’ll see over the coming weeks whether we can do that.”
