Wanderer’s midfielder Sam Wood is unable to put his finger on why the Blues have struggled to match their away form on their own patch this season.

Only Manchester City can match Wycombe’s record of one away defeat so far this season, with their only loss in 15 road games coming against Exeter in October.

Consecutive home defeats and some stuttering performances have seen Blues garner just six points from a possible 18 in League Two as they slipped from top to third, but Wood is at a loss to explain why they’re better suited to playing away.

He said: “We put 100 per cent in every game but it just happens to be that we just can’t win at home. I don’t know why that is.

“We’re away this weekend so hopefully we can carry on our away run, but I can’t really put my finger on it because I think the performances were there, like I said, we just didn’t take our chances.

“It’s only bad results I don’t think it’s been two bad performances it was just bad results. I suppose teams are coming to Wycombe and maybe shutting up shop, getting their goals, sitting back and we just can’t break them down.

“When we’re away from home they attack us more and we counter-attack them, that’s maybe why the away form is a little bit better. People are coming to us now that we’re doing well and trying to shut up shop. Maybe they’re doing what we do to people on the road.”

Having already played all of the teams in the division Wood feels teams may have worked out the way Wycombe like to play and set-up to stop them accordingly.

“We’re doing really well and the teams coming to us we’ve already played away so they know what we’re all about,” he said.

“They’ve probably been doing their homework on us and tried to suss us out. It’s worked the last two games, but we’re just going to carry on doing what we’re doing.

“We’re not nervous; we’re not worried about anything. Like I say, the performances were there, everyone’s giving everything they can and hopefully we can start sticking it in the back of the net.”
