Dagenham might be stuck in mid-table but Wanderers’ opponents on Saturday won’t give them an easy ride, insists Gareth Ainsworth.

The Daggers are 15th in League Two heading into the game at Victoria Road, but are among the division’s form sides having won four of their last five matches.

The Blues boss quashed suggestions that Dagenham may have one foot on the beach with the east Londoners having little left to play for lying 12 points clear of relegation and 11 adrift of a play-off spot.

He said: “There’s no way a man like Wayne Burnett would ever have nothing to play for.

“I know as a person and as a manager what Wayne Burnett’s about, and I know that he will be giving absolutely everything to beat Wycombe Wanderers, as he would do against any other team in League Two.

“We cannot treat this game with any less severity than we would any of our remaining eight games.”

It’s likely Blues will once again be without right-back Sido Jombati when they take on the Daggers, although Ainsworth refused to disclose the results of a scan on the Portuguese defender’s ankle.

“I’m sure that the club will release things when we know the extent of how long Sido is going to be out for,” he said.

“At the moment, without speculating or getting anyone’s hopes up or down, we’ll leave that and I’m sure something will come out of the club at the right time.”

Max Kretzschmar has been out since December, but took part in the warm-up against Luton on Tuesday and isn’t far from making a comeback according to the Blues boss.

He said: “Max is very close, but we’re still waiting on the results of tests on Max. With the players who aren’t in the squad at the moment we’ve got a full bench so there’s no need to rush players back.

“If I get any injuries or suspensions then it will probably be more paramount to get these players back, but at the moment they’re on a programme of rehabilitation. Max is well down his and he’ll be very close.”
