Wanderers might not have played on Monday night but manager Gareth Ainsworth still had a result to celebrate.

League Two leaders Burton were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Stevenage meaning that Blues are now within striking distance going into a bank holiday double header.

Wycombe are three points behind Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men ahead of a home fixture against Oxford on Good Friday before a mouth watering trip to the Pirelli Stadium to meet Burton on Easter Monday.

Speaking after Saturday’s 1-0 win against Dagenham, Ainsworth said: “I want the boys to go to Burton on Easter Monday with a chance of catching Burton. Whether that happens or not is in Burton’s hands.

“I know they have a game in hand on Monday and we’ll be watching that, but to take as many points as we can over the Easter period is the intention.

“There’s a big one on Easter Monday but we have a big local derby on Good Friday which is huge. Oxford are going to come, there’s going to be no form in that game at all – don’t look at the table for that one. It’s the M40 derby which we’ll take passionately.

“After the Easter period you might get a clue where the table is headed.”

The Blues boss also hinted that he may have to rotate his squad to cope with the demands of two games in four days.

He said: “I’m not going to think it’s Wycombe Wanderers’ year until I know the final table. There’s still no pressure, the lads are tired today (Saturday) which showed so that probably gives me a heads up over the Easter programme and what I may do.”
