Gareth Ainsworth admitted losing Joe Jacobson to injury against Cheltenham is a “big blow” and hopes he will be a fit to play a part in the final four fixtures.

The left-back has been an ever present for Wanderers this season but was forced off after a full blooded 50-50 tackle with Town’s Jordan Wynter.

Exeter visit Adams Park on Tuesday and if Jacobson is unable to recover then it’s likely Sam Wood will deputise in the left-back berth.

“He’s really put his body on the line and that’s typical of Joe Jacobson,” said Ainsworth.

“He’s a fantastic competitor, he’s played every minute of every game so far this season and to bring him here in the first place I was amazed that we could get him.

“He’s been brilliant this season so it’s a big blow, but I’m sure Joe will be doing everything he can to play his part in the last four games.”

Ainsworth also revealed that match winner Alfie Mawson had picked up a knock late on.

He said: “Alfie also injured his ankle late on and I think Aaron Holloway was suffering late on with cramp. We’re going to have to get everyone refreshed and we may have to change up.

“I’ll make that decision but it’s up to the medical team to earn their crust and get everyone ready for Tuesday.”
