Ex-Wycombe Wanderers player Delroy Facey is currently on trial over claims that he was involved in attempts to fix lower league matches.

The 34-year-old, who made eight appearances for Blues while on loan from Gillingham in 2008, was said to have “cast his net around to find players who might be willing to take part in match fixing” by prosecutor Nick Mather when the trial started at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.

It is alleged that Facey acted as a “middleman” for two men who have already been convicted for match fixing.

Chann Sankaran and Krishna Ganeshan were both found guilty in 2014 with Facey accused of acting as a “fixer” for the pair who were seeking to profit from placing rigged bets on lower league matches.

Facey, who played for Bolton and West Brom among others, is standing trial alongside former non-league player Moses Swaibu, who was allegedly one of the players targeted in the conspiracy.

Mr Mather told the jury that there was no doubt that an agreement to fix lower league matches had occurred.

“This case is not about whether this scheme existed,” the prosecutor told the jury.

“The issue for you to decide is whether you are sure that firstly, Delroy Facey, and secondly, Moses Swaibu, was a part of that agreement.

“This case is focused on them and what they did, and why they did it.”

The pair have both denied conspiracy to commit bribery between 1-27 November 2013, and the trial continues.
