Gareth Ainsworth believes it won’t be long before clubs start showing an interest in his “project” Aaron Holloway.

The forward, who has started six of Wanderers’ last eight matches, has caught the eye with several strong performances of late and he scored in the first leg of the play-off semi-final against Plymouth.

Ainsworth bought Holloway to Adams Park in August on a free transfer after his release from Newport County, and the 22-year-old has since gone on to score four times in 34 appearances, although 17 of those have come from the bench.

“He is still my project,” said the Wycombe manager after the striker helped Blues reach Wembley by securing a 5-3 aggregate win against Plymouth.

“He has the attributes and the tools to play at a very high level. We signed him when he was injured – he had a hamstring injury – but we had seen enough to believe we could turn him into something special. I still believe that.

“He is a long way from the finished article but with performances like that it won’t be too long before we see some interest in Aaron Holloway.”

Holloway originally signed a deal until January before he penned an extension until the end of the current season.

Ainsworth said last week that talks with all his out of contract players will have to wait until the end of the club’s play-off campaign which will now be after the play-off final on May 23.
