Wanderers midfielder Peter Murphy will leave the club on July 1 and join fellow League Two side Morecambe.

The midfielder, who only joined the club last summer, has signed a two-year deal at the Globe Arena.

The news comes as somewhat of a surprise given Wycombe are yet to announce the 25-year-old's departure and offered no comment when approached following rumours of Murphy's imminent departure.

In an article on the Shrimp's website Murphy says he was given the opportunity to speak to other clubs and the piece alludes to the fact that the former Accrington man was allowed to leave with the Blues' blessing.

Murphy told Morecambe's website: “I just want to play regular football and I wasn’t getting that at Wycombe at the end of last season.

“I was allowed to talk to other clubs and when I met Jim and Kenny they were brilliant with me. They have got a real ambition and really sold their vision to me.

“I’m just someone who wants to play football regularly and hopefully I can do that here and help Morecambe get success.

“I know some of the lads already and know that there is a good squad here and I’m really looking forward to next season.’’

Murphy scored on his debut against Newport and proceeded to net six more times before he fell out of favour and consequently hasn't been on the scoresheet since November.
