Matt McClure will face Wanderers next season after signing a deal with fellow League Two side Dagenham.

The striker, who was released by Gareth Ainsworth in May, has penned an initial one-year deal with Wayne Burnett’s team, with the option of a second year.

McClure had been on trial with the Daggers and appeared in a 4-0 win against St Albans City.

Burnett said: “Matt McClure is a player I’ve known for quite a while and I’m delighted I’ve got someone who has got potential and can certainly play at this level and higher.”

The 23-year-old joined Blues as a trainee in 2010 and went on to make 124 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals in that time.

The striker finished as the club’s top goal scorer as they stayed up on the final day of the 2013/14 season, endearing himself to Blues supporters with nine goals which helped keep them in the Football League.

However, McClure endured a difficult 2014/15 campaign with niggling injuries and a red card against Tranmere, in which he was sent-off less than four seconds after coming on as a substitute, denying him a run in the side.

The forward’s penultimate appearance for the club against Exeter in April summed up his season as he left the pitch injured just ten minutes after replacing Aaron Holloway.
