GARETH Ainsworth says something special is stirring at Wycombe Wanderers this season but he won’t let complacency slip in ahead of tomorrow’s banana skin fixture at home to Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Chairboys chief has led his side to joint top of the League Two table with a club-record three straight wins at the start of the season, while the Daggers are rock bottom and point-less.

Ainsworth said: “I’m really proud. I feel something special happening around Wycombe Wanderers which is different from before. We have just continued on from last season when we got a club record 84 points, it’s as though there has been no break. It doesn’t feel like a new season, wWe have picked up where we left off and the fans are becoming a big part of this.”

But he added: “It’s early days,” and, with the Daggers next up, he knows nothing can be taken for granted particularly as the visitors have the prolific Jamie Cureton and former Wanderer Matt McClure among their strikers.

Ainsworth knows Cureton from their QPR days together and said: “He pops up in the right place so often, has deceptive pace and has a strongmade a long career out of his knack for scoring. He will have to be watched.”

Ainsworth also rates Wycombe old boy McClure as another potential danger. He said: “Matt was one of the most natural finishers at the club and for me it was a really difficult decision to let him go. He had an unlucky run of injuries with us and needed a fresh challenge.”

Although Wanderers have yet to concede a goal in their flying start to the campaign, Ainsworth is not counting his chickens.

He said: “I’m putting out a big call against complacency because if you do relax and treat anyone differently in this league you will fall flat on your face. Dagenham will be as strong as a Leyton Orient or Portsmouth.”
