AARON Pierre scored  Wanderers’ last-gasp leveller against Dagenham and Redbridge this afternoon and then said he owed his team-mates that.

The defender blamed himself for not winning a header in the build-up to Dagenham’s seventh minute opener which was scored by Wycombe old boy Matt McClure and Pierre had to wait 88 long minutes to make amends for his mistake.

He said: “I blame myself for their goal. I shouldn’t have gone for that header in the first half. I read it a bit too late and Matt McClure got in and made sure he took his chance. I was so disappointed because it was my bad decision-making that gave them that goal. If I hadn’t gone for that ball then I would have been in a position to mark Matt McClure.

“It was a real relief when I got the equaliser.”

And his joy was summed up when he picked up a ball boy and let the youngster join in the wild goal celebration.”

Pierre said: “I’m sure he enjoyed it as much as we did.

“We have this never-say-die attitude. We are all strong minded players and we all have the same determination. We are fighters, we all want to win and we don’t stop until we at least get a point.

“It was tough out there. Dagenham defended very well and made it hard for us. But I never gave up. I always thought we would get one more chance and luckily it fell to me and I was able to put it away and get the equaliser.

“We wanted three points but as long as we don’t lose that’s the main thing.

“We didn’t play at our best, there were a few tired legs out there and maybe there was a bit of complacency as well because we had won three out of three before; we thought that we would push them over but they were very hard to break down and very direct.”
