WANDERERS have boosted their strike force with the capture of Gozie Ugwu who says he can't wait to get into the action.

The 22-year-old new recruit, who has signed until the end of the season, was introduced to fans on Wednesday ahead of the Premier League International U21 fixture between Borussia Moenchengladbach and Athletic Bilbao at Adams Park.

The centre forward was released by Yeovil despite scoring five times for The Glovers in League One last season where he finished the campaign as the Somerset side’s joint top scorer.

Prior to that, he had a one-goal-every-two-games record in Scotland with Division One outfit Dunfermline and Wanderers chief Gareth Ainsworth is delighted to add the former Reading youth teamer to his squad.

Ainsworth said: “He’s an exciting young talent. I saw a lot of him when I first took my steps into management and went out scouting. I was impressed by his size, his eye for goal and his aggression and he’s a good asset to have in the squad.

“His goal record speaks for itself, his starts-to-goals-scored is a great and one that any striker would be happy with. We’re a side that create chances and he’ll be looking forward to getting on the end of those.

“He’s been training with us for two weeks, he’s seen what we do, he knows we do things differently and he really wanted to be here and has bought into everything. I like what I see, it’s now about transferring that onto the pitch. He’s definitely first-team ready."

Ugwu goes straight into the squad for Saturday's match against Plymouth, a club he served on loan.

And the Oxford-born player, who describes himself as ‘pacy and direct with a good eye for goal’ can’t wait to get his career going again after injury wrecked his chances of finding a club this summer.

He said: “I went to Northampton to train but in my first few days there I pulled a hamstring and that was the end of my trial. It was devastating at the time but I think everything happens for a reason and I’m really happy to be at Wycombe now. It’s a very close-knit group and I’m lucky to be a part of it and I’m desperate to get playing again."
