WANDERERS striker Garry Thompson has put Exeter’s Clinton Morrison in the clear saying the City striker was being the good guy and not the villain.

Wycombe fans and several of their players thought Morrison was accusing Ryan Sellers of play acting when the Wycombe substitute was knocked unconscious by the ball defending a free kick and that provoked angry scenes.

Thompson said: “It was a misinterpretation. Clinton was actually seeing if Ryan was OK and trying to help him. He wasn’t standing over him trying to get him up, he was actually genuinely concerned for the lad. He saw him lying on his back not moving and fair play to Clinton, he was concerned and trying to make sure he was ok. Not in any way was he trying to drag him up.

“The rest was heat of the moment and things flare up but it had nothing to do with Clinton himself. He was checking on Ryan and fair play to him for doing that.”

Sellers left the field on a stretcher and boss Gareth Ainsworth said he was unconscious for a around half a minute.

Wycombe fans turned on Morrison and the Exeter man was clearly angered by the reaction he received and minutes later when the game ended and he went down the tunnel he showed his displeasure to the Wycombe bench.

But after the match, and away from the fans, there was a warm handshake between him and Ainsworth who underlined he had no ill-feelings to the former Premiership centre forward.
