Gareth Ainsworth believes a lack of creativity cost his side in their 2-0 defeat against Leyton Orient at Adams Park.

Jay Simpson and Calaum Jahraldo scored in the second half as Wycombe failed to have a shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

Ainsworth’s men are now ninth in League Two and Ainsworth claimed a lack of creativity was at the heart of the Blues defeat.

“We didn’t create enough today by a long way and I thought we had the better of the game and were quite comfortable in the first half,” he said.

“The creativity wasn’t great today and when we did have chances to cross it we didn’t put the right crosses in.

“We were just playing it into the keepers arms or just putting hopeful balls in. we are better than that and we have proved that in the last campaign and at the start of this one.”

If Wycombe’s attacking play was poor their defensive efforts also left a lot to be desired as they allowed the league’s top scorer, Simpson, time to settle in the box before striking to opener.

The manner of Simpson’s goal clearly frustrated Ainsworth who felt the slack marking was a decisive factor in the defeat.

“There was not much in the game, just two shots on goal and they have both gone in and that is poor,” he explained.

“Like I say when you are are not creating you have to try and keep things secure at the back. You can’t let Jay Simpson have two touches in the box because he is going to tuck it away.”
