Gareth Ainsworth says he can reflect on the January transfer window in a positive light after what he dubbed a fantastic month for the club.

The Blues have signed Michael Harriman on a four-and-a-half year deal from QPR, Extended Jason McCarthy’s loan until the end of the season, and brought in Paris Cowan-Hall and Ryan Allsop on loan during the window.

The loss of Matt Ingram – he joined QPR for a fee thought to be in the region of £500,000 – is of course a blow for Wycombe, but Ainsworth feels the club can be largely pleased with their business.

“It has been a fantastic window for the club. Matty Ingram leaving was always on the cards and we will be able to look back on his time here in the future and be proud of the part we played in what I am sure will be a great career,” he said.

“We got a goalkeeper in which is great, and Monday was a fantastic day for the club with keeping Jason here as well and we have done good business.”

One of Ainsworth’s biggest fears heading into the window was the potential of losing a number of his talented youngsters.

He had previously spoken of the battle he faces to hold onto the likes of Aaron Pierre, Luke O’Nien and also to extend McCarthy’s stay.

He has managed to do just that though and despite the departure of Ingram and Jason Banton – the 23-year-old’s contract was mutually terminated – he will be able to approach the remainder of the season with a settled squad.

Ainsworth explained: “It is great that we have been able to keep people like Jason McCarthy, Michael Harriman, Aaron Pierre and Luke O’Nien at the club either permanently or on loan.

“We always want to keep our best players at the club and other than Matt leaving we have been able to do that.”

Ainsworth also took the time to discuss the qualities possessed by Allsop, who joins from Bournemouth in the wake of the hip injury suffered by Alex Lynch.

The 23-year-old brings with him 77 first team appearances across three different leagues and this experience was a pivotal part of the appeal in signing him.

“Ryan was a player we watched for a while and we have made a judgement on him over a long time,” Ainsworth explained.

“Eddie Howe has helped get the deal done. He knew he would be coming in and playing games which helped and we are pleased that another Premier League club has trusted us with their player.

“We wanted somebody who had some experience and somebody who has played a bit before.

"That was important because we are still 18 points away from our target of 61, so we needed someone with a little bit of experience to help push for that total.”
