Gareth Ainsworth says Wycombe Wanderers must take the positive mood created from their 2-1 win against Dagenham & Redbridge into their match against Exeter City tomorrow.

The Blues’ home form has left a lot to be desired in recent weeks and they have lost three in a row at Adams Park.

Ainsworth is therefore hoping his side will replicate the performances that have seen them pick up eight of their 13 league wins on the road this season in tomorrow’s League Two clash.

“We need to reproduce our away form at home. I know it is frustrating for the fans because it is frustrating for me,” he said.

“I can’t put my finger on why we are doing worse at home. I keep saying it is happening across the board in football but it does seem to be happening more at Wycombe.

“It is a sort of nervy atmosphere at home. When you don’t win and go so many games without winning it gets nervier.”

If Ainsworth is looking to foster a positive atmosphere, he need look no further than last season’s meeting between the two sides at Adams Park.

Paul Hayes scored a penalty in the 12th minute of injury to time to seal a win that day and Ainsworth is hoping that the Blues can discover a similar level of excitement and consistency at home.

“We want to turn our home form around and we really made Adams Park a fortress at this sort of time last season,” he said.

“Ironically it was results like Exeter in the dying minutes that did that. I remember how good we were in the play-off semi-final at home and we need to recreate that buzz again.”

It will not be an easy task tomorrow though. Wycombe welcome one of League Two’s in form sides in an Exeter team that have won three on the bounce and are unbeaten in four.

Having dealt with a route one approach from Dagenham in midweek, Ainsworth is expecting a more cultured style from Paul Tisdale’s team.

Ainsworth said: “Exeter do like to play football and try and play through you. I know Paul Tisdale was at our game against Luton, and he was very complimentary towards us and knows we can play on our day as well.

“I am expecting the ball to be on the deck a lot on Saturday and it presents a different challenge to Dagenham but that is League Two and we will give it our all.”

He may have to take on that challenge without Joe Jacobson as the left-back is struggling to recover from a leg injury picked up during Saturday’s defeat to Luton.

He will certainly be without Garry Thompson as the striker sits out the first game of his three match ban.
