The mark of a successful sporting career is often longevity and Aaron Pierre is set to bring up a big milestone in his against Portsmouth on Saturday.

When the 23-year-old takes to the Fratton Park turf it will be the 100th time he has turned out for the Wycombe Wanderers.

He has progressed rapidly since arriving at Adams Park in 2014 and is looking forward to reaching triple figures for the club.

Pierre said: “I am very happy to reach 100 games for the club. One of my big personal aims for the season was to make sure I finished it with 100 games under my belt.

“I can build on that for my future and I think it is a good achievement for me and shows my commitment to the club.”

The speed with which Pierre has brought his century up is testament to his importance to Wycombe and he is one of the first names on Gareth Ainsworth’s team sheet.

Pierre remains humble regardless of his integral role in the Wanderers starting XI and insists he is no more significant than any other squad member.

“Everyone is important no matter how many times they have played. I am not going to say I am one of the key people because everyone puts in 100 per cent to get good results, and I am just like everyone else,” he explained.

Of course, impressive displays bring with them admiring eyes and it remains to be seen if Pierre will remain at Wanderers long enough to bring up another 100 appearances.

The centre-back was linked with a muted move away from the club in January and he was coy when quizzed on his future, but asserted his focus remains solely on Wycombe.

He said: “It is out of my hands and I just need to make sure I play as well as I can on the pitch and whatever happens off it happens.

“At this moment in time I am not focussed on anything else other than trying to keep clean sheets and winning games for Wycombe.”
