Wycombe Wanderers have signed 22-year-old striker Dayle Southwell on a two-year deal from Boston United.
Southwell is the club’s first acquisition of the summer and brings with him the promise of goals after enjoying two prolific campaigns, which yielded 54 goals, with United in the Vanarama National League North.
A club statement said Wanderers beat off opposition from a number of EFL sides to capture the former Grimsby Town player’s signature, and manager Gareth Ainsworth is clearly pleased with the signing.
He said: “Dayle is a player who’s been on our radar for some time and I’m thrilled to be able to bring him here.
“There were a lot of clubs looking at him but we know we can offer him a real opportunity to make his name in the EFL and develop his potential even further.
“He is a physical striker who knows where the goal is and I’m confident that his all-round play will benefit us. It’s a great step up for Dayle and I think he could be really exciting for us.”
Southwell has also represented England C and was named in the Vanarama National League North Team of the Year.
Wycombe fans will have the chance to meet Southwell for the first time in the club shop between 12.30-1.30pm tomorrow.
The deal remains subject to final paperwork being submitted by the club.
