Some of Wycombe Wanderers’ most famous former players helped launch Penn & Tylers Green FC’s new pitch on Saturday.

Steve Guppy and Keith Scott were among the players who formed a Wanderers Legends XI which played against Penn in the pitches inaugural game.

The club received a £68,194 grant from the Premier League for the construction of the pitch, which cost £128,476 altogether, as part of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund (FSIF) initiative.

Penn’s communications officer, James Keating, is delighted to see the long held ambition of renovating the club’s pitch come to fruition.

“Five years in planning with all the hurdles and ups and downs disappeared into the distance because of today,” he said.

“We got there in the end through considerable and valuable help from the FSIF and we now have a fantastic pitch providing the community with a wonderful footballing facility.

“We are extremely grateful to former Wycombe Wanderers star Keith Scott for bringing the legendary FA Trophy winning side to French School Meadows for the official opening.”

The Premier League funds the FSIF with £5.2m a year and is the country’s largest supplier of grants which help improve comfort and safety at lower league grounds.

FSIF chairman, Peter McCormick OBE, spoke of the impact the new pitch could have on the Hellenic League Division One champions.

“I am delighted to see Penn & Tylers Green FC have been able to create a new pitch with this grant from the Premier League,” he said.

“The properly drained pitch will allow the club to continue to develop and will be a base for their many teams.”
