Wycombe Wanderers have signed Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on loan until Tuesday, January 3.

The six foot six inch 22-year-old joins from the Premier League giants in search of regular first team football and will provide cover for the injured Scott Brown.

The move ensures Ainsworth will not have to turn to goalkeeping coach Barry Richardson while Brown is out.

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth is pleased to have added strength between the sticks and spoke glowingly of the youngster’s ability.

He said: “For us to attract someone of Jamal’s calibre to the club is a big coup for us, and is a result of the excellent relationship we have with Chelsea both as a club, and me personally.

“He’s a giant of a lad with massive potential to go far in the game and I’m sure he’ll benefit from playing regular men’s football and working under the guidance of Barry Richardson.”

The move comes as Cameron Dawson’s seven-day stay with Wanderers comes to an end after he impressed during his two appearances.

Despite wanting to retain the youngster, Wanderers reached an impasse in negotiations with his parent club Sheffield Wednesday.

Ainsworth explained: “Cameron was outstanding in his two games for us and we wanted to keep him here, but unfortunately we couldn’t reach an agreement with Sheffield Wednesday.

“He’s a great lad and we’ll keep a close eye on his development as I’m sure he’ll go on to have a very good career in the game.

Ainsworth went on to confirm the deal to bring Blackman to the club was better for Wanderers financially and thanked Chelsea for helping to facilitate the move.

He said: “Jamal comes to us on a much better deal and I’d like to thank Chelsea for allowing us to bring him in and trusting us with one of their young stars.”

Blackman will wear the number 27 shirt during his stay at Adams Park and arrives and will be available to play against Accrington Stanley tomorrow night.
