THERE were no pies at Adams Park this afternoon, but second half goals from Luke O'Nien and Aaron Pierre ensured the Wycombe faithful were not left hungry for points.

In a niggly League 2 contest played in driving drizzle, Gareth Ainsworth's side picked up three valuable points which hauled them into 16th place in a congested division - with just six points separating the relegation and play-off zones.

It was as you were team-wise for the Chairboys, with boss Ainsworth naming the same starting line-up which won the FA Cup first round tie at Portsmouth.

Three days ago, Wycombe suffered a disappointing 4-2 defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Coventry and for striker Scott Kashket, who had impressed on Wednesday evening, he was named among the substitutes.

Morecambe included in their ranks skipper Peter Murphy, who played one season at Adams Park, scoring on his debut against Newport County in August 2014.

The biggest news pre-match was that there were no pies on sales at Adams Park "due to unforeseen circumstances".

The match began with a wreath laying in the centre circle and a minute's silence on Remembrance weekend.

Morecambe opened strongly and twice in the first 12 minutes looked dangerous.

Neat interplay on the edge of the Wycombe area set up Paul Mullin whose shot was well held by goalkeeper Jamal Blackman. And then moments later, Mullin was played through with a sight on goal, and his delicate chip just cleared Blackman and the crossbar.

Earlier, James Jennings earned a seventh minute yellow card for a crunching tackle which left Wycombe's Dominic Gape sprawling on the floor. And the card count doubled for the visitors when Dean Winnard was booked for dissent on 24 minutes.

Wycombe countered and on 15 minutes Luke O'Nein was picked out in space from a Joe Jacobson corner, but his thundering volley was blocked and cleared.

Then 10 minutes later, the ball broke to Aaron Pierre inside the box after the ball broke from a Jacobson free-kick, but his shot was blocked. As Luke O'Nien collected the ball, he was upended outside the area. The Wycombe midfielder took the kick but could only fire it straight at the Morecambe wall.

Adebayo Akenfenwa had had a couple of pretty tame efforts on goal, but he came agonisingly close on the half hour when he met Jacobson's wicked left wing cross with a header from the penalty area which curled wide of the right-hand upright.

Wycombe were enjoying a greater share of possession and looking the more menacing. However Pierre received a 33rd minute booking for leaving his studs on the shins of Morecambe left-back Aaron McGowan.

Towards the end of the half, the game settled down, and became niggly in places.

Ainsworth became frustrated at some of the referee's decisions with shirt-tugging and tackles flying in on a greasy, rain-sodden pitch, and which saw, in injury time, Michael Rose becoming the third Morecambe player to be booked.

Dominic Gape, who needed treatment in the first half with a leg injury after a clattering challenge, was substituted at the start of the second half for Marcus Bean.

And within 90 seconds Wycombe took the lead. Jacobson put in a teasing free-kick which was met by Stewart. His header was blocked and broke to Pierre, which the central defender prodded home for his first goal of the season.

Morecambe had a gilt-edged opportunity for an equaliser seven minutes later, when Matt Bloomfield mis-controlled the ball with his arm. Visiting fans claimed a penalty, but instead The Shrimps were awarded a free kick-right on the edge of the 18 yard box.

Michael Rose stepped up and curled his left foot drive around the nine-man wall, striking the foot of Blackman's right-hand post and away to safety. It was a lucky escape.

Peter Mullin became Morecambe's fourth booking of the match on 54 minutes, and the betting was on how many Shrimpers would be on the pitch by 90 minutes.

Wycombe should have scored a second after 58 minutes when, after great hold up play by Akinfenwa, O'Nien found a route to goal but fizzed his shot across the face of goal.

Then, after 58 minutes, Morecambe keeper Barry Roche made a real hash of a Jacobson corner, which bounced inside the six yard box and was cleared for a second corner, which came to nothing.

With the game becoming flatter as a contest, Morecambe made a double substitution 18 minutes from time bringing on Jack Dunn and Lee Molyneux to haul themselves back into the game.

However, Luke O'Nien put paid to any Morecambe revival in the 80th minute. He rounded off a neat move after Paris Cowan-Hall created space on the left edge of the penalty header, he passed to Hayes and his delicate cross was met with a crisp O'Nien header for his first goal of the season and a 2-0 lead.

Cowan Hall let fly with a spectacular effort five minutes from time with a long range effort which Roche tipped onto the bar.

Then in injury time, Cole Stockton broke free from a couple of Wycombe defender and his low, skidding shot slammed into the advertising hoardings behind Blackman's goal, without the Chairboys keeper moving.
