THAT MAN Adebayo Akinfenwa was once again the hero for Wycombe as he scored the winner on 81 minutes to seal a berth for Wanderers in the semi-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy.

The Beast superbly controlled a long ball and finished with aplomb as the Chairboys came from behind to win 2-1 at Field Mill.

Fellow substitute Scott Kashket had equalised for the visitors on 68 minutes when he tucked home a rebound past Jake Kean after Max Muller’s thumping shot from 30 yards had been well saved.

The Stags took the lead on 34 minutes when Matt Green scored from the penalty spot past Jamal Blackman after Joe Jacobson was adjudged to have handled in the area.

In a closely fought game early on, both sides had chances with centre-back Rhys Bennett twice coming close for the visitors and Myles Weston and Sam Saunders looking dangerous for Gareth Ainsworth’s men.

After Green’s confident finish, Mansfield started the second half well but Wycombe were always a threat and Paris Cowan-Hall should have equalised just before the hour mark but he headed Jacobson’s teasing cross well over.

Unfortunately for Wanderers, Cowan-Hall went off injured soon after but superb sub Kashket sent the travelling fans into raptures as he tapped home with over 20 minutes left.

Inevitably, ‘The Beast’ had the final say in a terrific contest as Wycombe go 16 matches unbeaten and get ever closer to a date at Wembley.
